Choosing the Perfect Gift for Children

Why Children's jewelry boxes are perfect a solution

In the quest to find the perfect gift to your child, it's only natural that you want to give one that will be hit and also cherished. Children's jewelry boxes are perfect a solution as they not only are useful, but they are fun, can be musical, and every girl remembers her first jewelry box. Plus future gifts can stem from this gift ie. Jewelry, pins, or trinkets to put in the box so next year's gift ideas are overflowing already! Remember most children's jewelry boxes are in some way interactive. They have lights, music, a twirling princess, horse, ballerina, or possibly even a butterfly. The box should be fun, colorful, and styled to the child's taste to ensure that it's a hit. Believe me, it's not as hard as it sounds!

What to look for in Pricing & Quality

Now, finding that box may prove a bit tricky, but there are several tips to keep in mind. You always want to look for boxes that will last at least a year or so. I know, that seems short, but the truth of the matter is if a girl is going to play the jewelry box then it will experience wear. So be sure to keep the price down to what you'd expect a pair of decent shoes or pair jeans ($25-$40) to be at her age. This is not to say that the boxes will not last, but just like any toy played with, they do eventually break. Now, my daughter is 9 and every jewelry box she has had was under $40 and really lasted through drops, overuse, and constant music winding. So they can last. Sadly my daughter got marker and finger nail polish on the boxes over the years and I finally against her wishes, I purchased a new one for her birthday this year. We still have the others, but she loves her new box that has more room and this time is more hip, just like her. Most boxes in the higher range of $35 to $50 are usually slightly larger or better made hence the higher cost. The better made ones not always are wooden, but may have better musical components, more details, or just more features.

How to choose & where to look

Age plays a big role in the box you chose along with whether or not it's for her to interact with or just be on the dresser to house her better jewelry. The younger the child, the better it is to purchase a simpler, lighter jewelry box made of plastic or better yet, a bow made with thinner wood and designer illustrated paper over top so that it's easy to handle and still durable. The older she is, allows you to think about what features are needed, whether you want to go with a wooden one in oak or black for example or whether to go with a leather box. Knowing your child's interests just makes it a bit easier to find the perfect jewelry box as you must remember if they don't like it, they won't use it especially the older set of girls. This too though can limit or expand your choices. Remember, not all girls love ballerinas or ponies forever. So something with flowers or just a single color may just be the better fit. If she loves pink, ballerinas and princesses, the choices are numerous, but for horses, fairies, or flowers, the options are bit more limited though I found a nice assortment under children' jewelry boxes. Even the simplest of boxes in all white or pink, green or yellow can be personalized with stencils, stickers, or even glitter by you or the child or even as a project together. Make it fun whatever you do and it will be loved. Every girl remembers her first jewelry box, but remember every older girl holds onto her box longer so keep it in mind while your on the quest to find that perfect gift.

Your Quest Starts Now!

Take your time, look around online for the best selection as stores are limited if they carry any at all and living in Los Angeles, I can say I've only seen a couple stores that had just the simplest of jewelry boxes for children in December. You're sure to find the perfect one if you have a bit of an idea of what you want and just do some searching. Be sure to compare quality, cost, and the ability for use when making that final decision. Keep in mind that the choices online are year round while stores tend to stock around the holidays. Good luck in your quest…the internet is teeming with choices. Have fun!
